Wildflower and Cultural Plants Hike

April 20 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join VOF staff on a 2.5 mile spring hike through our South Section trails.
Come see the ephemeral flowers gracing the forest floor and learn about the usage of forest plants by the communities of people who made the Bull Run Mountains their home up until the early 20th century. Co-leading the hike is our Black and African American Fellow Amber Miller, who will give insight into the cultural significance of plants used by the Black communities in the Bull Run Mountains.

This hike is considered easy / easy-moderate and will take 2 – 3 hours at a slow pace.

Be sure to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, bugspray, and appropriate shoes.

Friendly reminder to leave your four-legged friends at home, as dogs are not allowed on the trails.

If you like using iNaturalist & Seek to identify plants, consider joining the Bull Run Mountains project to add to and see the list of species (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/the-preserve-at-bull-run-mountains)

If you have any questions, email Conservation Assistant Deneith Reif at
dreif@vof.org

Hope to see you there!
