This session will feature conservation prioritization tools, datasets, and decision frameworks that participants can use independently or with ICPRB’s Land Prioritization Tool to:
- Inform & target conservation investments
- Assess vulnerability to development & other stressors
- Identify lands that provide multiple ecosystem service benefits
Speakers will share insights from federal and regional programs, including:
- U.S. Forest Service findings from the State of the Chesapeake Forests, showing how forest trends & risks inform conservation decisions
- National Fish & Wildlife Foundation’s Chesapeake WILD program, illustrating how conservation projects are prioritized for funding
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how to align source water protection goals with broader conservation outcomes and apply these tools within their own projects.
This webinar is part of ICPRB’s semi-annual series for basin land use decision-makers, supporting implementation of the Potomac Basin Comprehensive Water Resources Plan. Past land use webinars can be found at ICPRB’s YouTube page.
In 2020, the Potomac River Basin Drinking Water Source Protection Partnership (DWSPP) developed a land parcel ranking to identify critical areas for protecting drinking water quality. In 2025 this effort was enhanced leading to updates to ICPRB’s Land Prioritization Tool.
