The ICPRB held a regional Technical Workshop on Potomac Toxics Data on 1/29/04, featuring speakers and attendees from state, federal, and regional agencies. The workshop provided an overview of studies that have been done to understand toxics pollution in the Potomac, assessments on several contaminants, and future needs. The meeting served as a beginning to regional coordination in assessing what information will be needed to address toxics pollution that is keeping segments of the river from meeting water quality standards. A panel discussion at the meeting's end helped identify research needs and how those needs can be met. The following topics were presented at the workshop. If you would like a copy of any of these power point presentations, please contact us.
Brown Bullhead Tumor Surveys in the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers Fred Pinkney, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Fish Tissue Monitoring in the Potomac Joseph Beaman, Maryland Department of the Environment
Chemical Contaminants in the Potomac River Water Column Joel Baker, University of Maryland, Chesapeake Biological Laboratory
PCB and DDT Contaminants in the Potomac River near Quantico Fred Pinkney, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
PCB Loadings in the Potomac River Watershed Gregory Foster, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, George Mason University
Review of Historical Data Concerning Chemical Contaminants in the Tidal Potomac River David Velinsky, The Academy of Natural Science, Patrick Center for Environmental Research
Trace Elements in the Potomac River and Wet Deposition to Suburban Areas Kathryn Conko, U.S. Geological Survey
