Volunteers helping to clean a tributary of
the Potomac
|
With nearly five million
people in the Potomac Basin, it may seem that there is very little
you as an individual can do to make a difference. Nothing could
be further from the truth - There are many simple actions you can
take that will help maintain and restore the beauty and health of
the Potomac and your local stream. Look at our suggestions for steps
you can take in your house, around
your yard, when you are out and about,
and when you are on the water. The ICPRB has developed a toolkit of restoration activities with detailed how-to instructions. It is designed to be a one-stop shop for restoration activities. If you have suggestions for new activities to add, contact the watershed coordinator at info@icprb.org.
Additionally, you can
get involved in your community by joining a local
watershed organization or creating one if your area does not
have one. You can also become a volunteer
water quality monitor. In addition to your actions, you can
work to get your government officials working for you - express
your concerns at your local government's meetings, contact your
state or national
representatives and vote!
Furthermore, you can
become better informed by reading about water resource issues on
the web or at your library or bookstore.
