The
National Watershed Network is a registry of locally led
watershed partnerships working to meet local goals through
voluntary actions.
The
Chesapeake Bay Program Watershed Profiles this Internet
application operates at a variety of scales from the entire
64,000 square mile Chesapeake Bay watershed to small tributary
watersheds. It displays information on landscape changes,
Bay Program activities, other organization activities, and
places to visit are some of the information displayed in easy
to read charts, maps, and tables.
Maryland's
Department of Natural Resources Tributary Teams are comprised
of local citizens, farmers, business leaders and government
officials appointed by the Governor meet regularly in each
of the Bay's ten major tributaries to help implement pollution
prevention measures needed to address local water quality
problems. A major focus of their efforts is controlling nutrient
pollution.
Maryland
Department of Natural Resources Surf Your Watershed
project is a cooperative effort involving the Maryland Departments
of the Environment and Natural Resources to "catalog"
important environmental, socioeconomic, and programmatic information
on a watershed basis.
The
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Watershed
Weekly is a multi-media website that features videos,
watershed resources, and spotlights on individuals making
a difference to protect our environment.
The
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Watershed
Notebooks brings together information on the 104 watersheds
in Pennsylvania. Includes Watershed Protection Programs information,
County Environmental Notebooks, Discussion groups and clickable
maps.
The
Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation Soil and
Water Conservation Program's Website contains information
on nonpoint source pollution (NPS) control, steps you can
take to help reduce water pollution, and many details about
agency soil and water conservation programs.
The
West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection's Stream
Partners encourages the formation of community-based partnerships
to protect streams and provides $5000 in seed money to complete
sustainable watershed improvement projects.
The
Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay is a regional nonprofit
organization that builds and fosters partnerships for the
restoration of the Bay and its rivers. It believes that cooperation
between informed and active citizens is the best foundation
for the Bays future. The Alliance has offices in Maryland,
Virginia, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania.
The
Canaan Valley Institute works to aid communities in implementing
locally determined solutions to problems that threaten the
economic or environmental resources of their watershed.
The
Center for Watershed Protection provides local governments,
activists, and watershed organizations around the country
with the technical tools for protecting some of the nations
most precious natural resources: our streams, lakes and rivers.
The
Chesapeake Bay Foundation helps protect the Bay's resources
by fighting for strong and effective laws and regulations,
restoring habitats through hands-on projects, increasing public
awareness of Bay issues, and involving community members in
restoration projects. In addition to its headquarters, CBF
has offices for the states of MD, PA, and VA.
The
Friends of the Potomac is the sponsoring organization
for the Potomac's designation as an American Heritage River.
Website includes their on-line newsletter and information
on ways you can get involved in perceiving the Potomac river's
heritage.
The
Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers (POWR)
is dedicated to the protection, sound management and enhancement
of the Commonwealths rivers and watersheds and to the
empowerment of local organizations with the same commitment.
The
Potomac Riverkeeper works to protect and restore the Potomac
River from its headwaters in West Virginia to the Chesapeake
Bay, through citizen action, advocacy, and enforcement.
The
Potomac Watershed Partnership is a large-scale restoration
and stewardship project focused on the Potomac River watershed.
Its mission is to create a collaborative effort among federal,
state, and local partners to restore the health of the land
and waters of the Potomac River Basin.
Virginia's
Valley Conservation Council is dedicated to protecting
the Shenandoah Valley region's natural, agricultural, and
cultural resources through private action and public planning.
The
West Virginia Rivers Coalition seeks the conservation
and restoration of West Virginia's rivers and streams.
