Forest and Riparian Buffer Conservation - Local Case Studies
from the Chesapeake Bay Program
Abstract: This publication is a collection of case-studies
that highlight accomplishments of local governments and citizen
organizations to recognize the importance of forests to their
communities and to take action to retain and restore those
forests. It illustrates, in two separate sections, innovative
riparian buffer and forest conservation programs initiated
and implemented
locally by the stewards of the Bay - its private citizens.
This document is intended for use as a
resource for local organizations. It offers some excellent
examples of what citizens and
communities can do to enhance and wisely manage their forest
resources. This document points out effective and practical
ways to reduce or reverse the trend of forest loss and how
communities can play an important role in protecting and restoring
forests for the Chesapeake
Bay.

Wetland and Riparian Stewardship in Pennsylvania: A Guide
to Voluntary Options for Landowners, Local Governments and
Organizations
Abstract: A number of voluntary conservation and management
options are available through federal and state agencies,
county conservation districts, and private organizations.
The programs and contacts listed in this guide are designed
to provide the reader with the essential tools for effective
land stewardship. Since the majority of wetlands and riparian
lands are privately owned, the role of the private landowner
and citizen organizations in the conservation and restoration
of these resources is significant.
