The Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin (ICPRB), a small quasi-governmental agency that advises the Potomac jurisdictions on water quality and resources issues, is hiring a Watershed Coordinator. The Watershed Coordinator leads ICPRB efforts to encourage water quality and related improvements through increased public involvement and stewardship. The coordinator provides support for local governments and community based watershed organizations focused on improving water quality and river health throughout the Potomac basin. The Watershed Coordinator will work to both establish and support self-sustaining citizen watershed groups, including assistance with incorporation, building organizational capacity, providing background data on watershed conditions, and other organizational tasks. Other efforts include promotion and strengthening community-based watershed management in the sub-basins and watersheds of the Potomac basin, and increasing coordination of efforts between ICPRB and member jurisdictions, local governments, and citizen groups. These efforts include public outreach events, such as the annual Potomac River Ramble canoe trips. Additionally, the Watershed Coordinator will participate in other Communications Unit projects that may include writing, editing, and public relations/outreach activities. Applicants should have a BA/BS in environmental science, social sciences, journalism or related degree, with experience in public speaking, writing, research, and good people skills.
